“Pinocho y Chapete” Series

Salvador Bartolozzi (1882–1950) created in 1917 the character Pinocho, very loosely based on Carlo Collodi’s Pinocchio, whose Adventures were published in Spain for the first time in 1912. The character became very popular, and in the following decade a total of 48 issues were published by Saturnino Calleja, first as “Pinocho Series” and later as “Pinocho vs. Chapete Series”.

In 1961–1962 the publisher Gahe reprinted the stories, placing “El nacimiento de Pinocho” (Pinocho’s Birth) as the first issue, although originally it was number 30. This reprint is the version that is offered here.
